Our unique partnership with North York Moors National Park puts our state of the art shop at the head of a fast developing Wildride Trails network. Spectacular views, several grades of stunning singletrack loops and a much loved skills area 1000ft up on the moors yet alongside the main road gateway to the National Park make Sutton Bank Bikes an ultimate bucket list destination.

Sutton Bank is at the heart of some of the best traffic-free cycling in England. We have 5 cycle routes for you to choose from which are all signed to suit beginners through to advanced riders. The best thing about Sutton Bank is that it isn't your typical tree lined trail centre, it is a location for those wanting to take a step into a natural environment with fast, flowing singletrack and bridleways, whilst taking in spectacular views. All routes share the excitement of following the escarpment edge on the return stretch. With Lake Gormire sparkling from far below, and dizzying views all around, these rides are something to remember!

The cycle trails at Sutton Bank all fall within the North York Moors National Park. This was declared a National Park in 1952 - chosen for its amazing wealth and variety of scenery. Nowhere else in Britain can you find the same magical blend of moorland, dale, forest and coast. The National Park Authority works with landowners to ensure that this special area is conserved for future generations to enjoy.

Sutton Bank National Park Centre is the premier gateway to the North York Moors National Park, with the finest view in England. There are hands-on activities and exciting interactive displays, as well as thrilling walks, cycle rides straight from the car park, play areas, cafe and shop. Admission is free but there is a small £4.50 parking fee.

We stock mountain, electric, gravel and road bikes plus everything else you need to hit the tarmac and trails in style. Or we can just hire you bikes to try or even arrange coaching or guiding if you need it.

Thirsk Racecourse_rgb_logo_0.png

Thirsk Racecourse is situated in the wonderful old cobbled market town of Thirsk, North Yorkshire, forever immortalised as ‘Darrowby’ in the literary works of the World’s most famous veterinary author, James Herriot; who, interestingly, occasionally found himself detailed to work at the Racecourse on racedays!

The Thirsk Racecourse facilities have benefited from huge and widespread investment over the past few years, not least the latest edition, the new Owners & Trainers facility, The Chestnut Room. Numerous options to partake in light (or not so light!) refreshments are spread far and wide around the Racecourse. Experience fine dining a la carte in the historic Hambleton Dining Room; or Dine & View in style in the luxuriously appointed Thomas Lord Restaurant. Savour a delicious seafood platter with fine champagne in their new bar 'The Shrimp'; or grab some delicious Yorkshire fish & chips outside the James Herriot Hall, with the popular Haddock in the Paddock Package. There really is something to suit every pallet and every pocket!

Renowned for its beautifully maintained paddock, Thirsk Racecourse has an idyllic country charm about it, yet it is a thoroughly modern venue with outstanding facilities; not least free Wi-Fi for everyone, making it ever popular across the generations, from the most seasoned racing fan to the first time racegoer.

In 2020, Thirsk stages 15 days of fabulous, competitive flat racing between April and September and the season gets off to a big start on Saturday 18th April.  With the first of its Saturday afternoon meetings launching proceedings, there are five more Saturday meetings to enjoy throughout the season, including The Cliff Stud Thirsk Hunt Cup on Saturday 2nd May; Thirsk's most historic race dating back to 1859.

Another Saturday favourite is the ever popular Irish Day on Saturday 16th May along with the fantastic William Hill Thirsk Summer Cup on Saturday 1st August and of course - Ladies' Day on Saturday 5th September.

Race forward to the summer months where there are lots more opportunities to enjoy the exciting Thirsk action from among the charming and beautiful surrounds of one of the country’s prettiest racecourses. These include: An evening in support of The ABF The Soldiers Charity on Saturday 9th May which coincides with the changed Bank Holiday in commemoration of VE Day. A fitting date! Tuesday 16th June, features all the Royal Ascot action (broadcast live in-between each of Thirsk's races); the Go Racing in Yorkshire Summer Festival comes to Thirsk on Friday 24th July; and there are two Family Days with lots of free activities for the children to enjoy.

After last year’s success, Thirsk is to hold another music event after racing, on Friday Evening 14th August, where the artist will be announced shortly and who will be performing on stage from 8.30pm.  This is set to be another fantastic Summer evening event not to be missed.

Encouraging families to make the most of the ‘kids go free’ value on offer, Family Days are filled with lots of fun to keep the children entertained through the summer holidays and include the James Herriot All Creatures Great & Small Family Day on Friday 7th August; and Pirates Family Day on Friday 28th August.
